The national sport of Nicaragua is baseball, which is even more popular than football!

Nicaragua’s most famous feature, Lake Nicaragua covers a vast 8,264 sq km and is home to more than 430 volcanic islands. It’s also home to a unique range of fish, including the worlds only fresh water shark! Lake Nicaragua is the only freshwater lake in the world to contain marine animals!

From the World Race: This location is always a World Race favorite. It’s a country full of wonderfully warm and caring people, and participants always leave having had a powerful experience. However, hopelessness, addictions, destitution, and poverty still plague the many lives of Nicaragua. There are orphans who have grown up without knowing the love of a parent and families who get by each day by scrounging scraps from the city dump where they have made their homes. In Nicaragua, you’ll have the opportunity to bring God’s love through slum ministry, door-to-door outreach, outreach to children, and more.

Below are 3 videos capturing life on the field in Nicaragua

Video #1 Cafe Chavalos: Overcoming the Streets.

This is real. I watched this video and lost it. Monday, after writing about the street kids addicted to paint thinner in Honduras I had a conversation with Kelly, I couldn’t believe that children as young at 8 years old live in the street… killing themselves by sniffing a household item to get high. 8 years old!! She told me about a documentary she had seen about a woman in Nicaragua who said the same thing. Donna couldn’t stand it either, so when a retired woman from Philadelphia was given a building in Nicaragua she turned it into Cafe Chavalos, hiring young men off the streets who were once addicts. She is teaching them to wait tables, work as a team, cook, have respect, have manners and run a business. When you have an hour or so, really, sit down and watch this documentary. I can’t stop thinking about these boys and I can’t wait to meet the ones who are not quite there yet.

Video #2 is from racer Angela Ketcham. Watch Team Catlizador decapitate 3 piñatas, build a kitchen, dances in the rain, and climb up/board down a volcano during month 10 of the World Race in Nicaragua working with Vision Nicaragua in Chinandega!

Video #3 Christina Kehres Month 2 of the World Race. Her squad partnered with CICRIN Ministry in Ometepe an island located in Lake Nicaragua. CICRN is a non-denominational Christian home for needy children of Nicaragua.  Ometepe is an isolated island in a poor, politically and economically isolated country. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in this hemisphere with the average worker earning only $2-$3 a day.CICRN’s purpose is to improve the lives of children who are orphaned, abandoned, or are in danger in their homes.Check it out at  http://www.cicrinus.org/

My 1st deadline of $3,500 is right around the corner. I’m so blessed to be sharing this journey with you! While we may never see the fruit of our investment, thats not really why we do what we do. Its an exciting thought to think that only $16,000 comes between me and serving these communities in Nicaragua. Will You help me GO?

Peace and Blessings,

Then I heard the voice of The Lord saying,

“whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. SEND ME!”
