11 Moments in Belize

1-Painting a missionary home: Our teams were able to paint the outside and several inside rooms of the house that will host a missionary family from Africa.

2-Vacation Bible School in More Tomorrow Village: Our team served in a small village to present a Bible school to the children there. The children were so attentive to hear of the Bible and loved singing and dancing.

3-Kickball game with neighborhood kids: The other team invited the kids to the neighborhood soccer field to play kickball. The kids liked the game for about 3 innings, but then the heat got the best of us, so we walked home and enjoyed ice pops.

4-Hope for Life pregnancy center fundraiser: Our teams were able to help set up for this fundraiser—we built centerpieces, ironed tablecloths, cut foam letters, set up the auction items, distributed papers for table settings, and designed the photo booth area.

5-Soaking Sessions with teams: Several times throughout the month, the two teams serving in Belmopan spent time “soaking.” This means someone plays music (either live or from an ipod) and we spend time listening to the Father (journaling, reading the Bible or just being still). I loved our sharing times—to hear how the Lord spoke to my teammates and slowing down to spend time reflecting on my own heart journey.

6-Football: During our free time we spent time playing American football. I miss watching football, tailgating and playing football with my brothers and friend in NC—so it was fun to enjoy being active and having fun with my fusion family.

7-Babysitting: A few times during the month, I was blessed to babysit a missionaries adopted daughter. She was a fun girl to watch—she loved walking and exploring nature, petting roaming horses, cleaning up the yard, and snacking.

8-Freedom House: We spent two days helping men move from their previous house to their new house. These men have been released from prison and live in this housing in order to reestablish themselves and also receive discipleship during their stay.

9-Hammock Island: This was a place of quiet solitude all month–it was a retreat to spend alone and receive refreshment from the Father.

10-Mercy’s Baptism: One of my teammates got baptized! It was so exciting to be there with her to celebrate this step of obedience!

11-Belize Zoo: Our last day in Belize was spent on one last international adventure before the race ends–and of course we picked visiting the Zoo! It was a blast to see a variety of animals and to visit this oasis in the middle of nowhere. I loved seeing the jaguars–they are beautiful cats. I also conquered a fear of snakes by holding a small boa constrictor.
