I just wanted to give you another quick update…Danielle made it safely to Miami and is staying with a close friend who came down to meet her and will fly her back home tomorrow to be with her family. Thank you for your prayers and please continue to be praying for her and her family as they go through this grieving process!
Also, as soon as we left the airport we got a flat tire. It just so happened that it was in the only vehicle that didn’t have a full compliment of tools to change it out. However, God provided a guy on the side of the road that was happened to have the materials and tools to take it off, patch it and put it back on for approximately 5 bucks and a half hour of our time. In the meantime I got a chance to chat with a Haitian guy for quite some time who lives in the same area we live in. I guess we’ll see if I “run” into him again some day.
Anyway, we never really get pizza down here (because the cheapest large is $17 a pizza) but the groups asked if we could get it for a night if they made up the difference from our dinner expenses. So, after the flat, we took off to pick up our order. In the 3 minutes that we were there a 27 girl came up to us asking if we could help her find a taxi. She’s was alone with nothing but a backpack and after a little bit of a conversation, we realized that she had very little idea what she just had walked into. She had just arrived on a plane from the States and was looking for a taxi right before dark to take her to a hostel that would cost like $10-$20 and was safe…For any of you readers that might be thinking this is a good idea, please don’t try it. Without contacts or plans as a single girl meandering for direction I looked at Geftay (my main translator) and we both instantly knew why we had the flat. God directed us to her and her to us for some protection and direction. She’s got a very free spirit and a good heart but has absolutely no idea of the danger she had been putting herself in. Thankfully God has been faithful to guide and protect her even though I don’t believe she knows Him at all. What a faithful God we serve! I wonder how many times He’s protected me when I didn’t have the slightest idea…Regardless, we got her to stay the night here and we’ve talked to her about staying with us and our teams while here due to a lot of safety concerns and the fact that I’d love for her to get to know Him. She’s not positive that she will stay past tomorrow but I ask that you would be praying on her behalf and ours.
