Another team has now come and gone and yet we’re here to continue pressing on. Thankfully we’re working on a week of healthiness with our team and leaders. We went through a couple bouts of sickness and I think I’ve located the culprit…lettuce. Anyway, we’ll see how that goes from here on out.
The team that just came down jumped right in and the revelation and growth within them was undeniable. It was exciting to see and hear stories throughout the day of God revealing His faithfulness to them. Often times they would return from being out all day in the hot sun and then spend the next hours ‘buzzing’ about everything they saw and did. God was definitely rejuvenating their hearts this week and that’s exciting for me to see.
Last week, the team spent a considerable time in Carrefoure with Pastor Mercy and his church. They prayed with locals, did a VBS, spent time talking with people in line about Jesus while they were waiting to go through a clinic (we partnered up for a day with another organization), did construction for a foundation of their new church and loved some orphans at another orphanage. All in all, they had a busy and full week but they’d be the first to say that God did more in their hearts than they were able to give out of their own strength.
We’re at the beginning stages of pairing up churches from the US with churches down here in Haiti. For more information on how to get involved, you should check out the “Isaiah 58 Project” on AIM’s webpage.
A church has recently donated the money to fund the supplies for a school just west of Port au Prince area. Almost all of the schools here were immediately shut down and many fell down after the Earthquake. April 5th marked the first day that many schools started to slowly open their doors. Well, the students in this particular area would love to go to school and now they’re getting the chance. All we had to do was front the money and the superintendent got his own crew of 30 young men to start working immediately. A majority of the students come from three different orphanages and if you want to read a bit more of the story you should click here: http://stephaniepridgen.theworldrace.org/?filename=one-school-a-few-miracles Steph is a natural writer who’s gifted at sharing stories of what’s going on. I’d suggest perusing through her latest blogs as they have more detail on much of what is going on here.
A couple weeks ago we had a team working with an orphanage that had run out of water, food and essentially clothes a few days before. We dropped in some food and supplies right before the team came in and they continued blessing them throughout the week. Pastor Maccene and his wife run the orphanage while also leading a congregation and homeschooling the orphans. Did I mention that we found out he also is a trained doctor? Well, the building is in rough shape and the kids are in rougher. God knew our prayers before we had time to pray them and I got an email by the end of the week from Seth saying that a church in the US wants to sponsor such a situation. Praise God!! We’re working on getting the two sides together right now.
The rains are starting to come more often which is a mixed blessing. The country could use it and yet that leaves many soaked. This is also means that garbage and waste is spreading and mosquitos are multiplying. Unfortunately, the next step is for diseases and illnesses to start spreading as well. Pray for the health of Haiti.
I will get you connected with the rest of my team’s blogs soon and I think I’m going to start a little series about the misconceptions of Haiti…because I’m fairly confident you all aren’t getting the most accurate of pictures from back home.
Be blessed.
