…and on the seventh day there was rest.
Rest doesn’t mean inactivity.
Rest doesn’t necessarily mean sleeping in.
Rest is a posture of the heart being intentional to be intimate with the source of refreshment.
Often times we try to fill our days off with as much FUN stuff that we wanted to do all week but couldn’t because of responsibilities, obligations, jobs and schooling. OR It’s the day to sleep as much as possible and be as inactive as possible because we’ve run ourselves ragged. However, these “days off” tend to be the least restful whether incredibly active or not at all. Will Miller, a racer on the field right now, just wrote a good blog about balance in a different area of life but I think he hits the point that balance is vital. We need time to rest. Not always even because we’re tired…it’s good for us….it’s holy.
Do you think God rested because He was merely exhausted from 6 days of creation?
Do you think that He made a commandment to keep the Sabbath holy just to see how obedient we would be?
Why do you think He’s been reminding the saints for ALL generations to REST…to abide in Him?
I lived in Dakar, Senegal with millions of people with about .5% Christians and the best word I can use to describe it was “anxious.” That word saturated much of the society. I then moved out to the Bering Sea on an island in the middle of nowhere and often times I felt like the best word to describe this island with it’s 450 people was “restless.”
Anxious…restless…not all that different and I’m getting more and more convinced that there is No rest without HIM…
Anyway, I didn’t sleep in…only got a few hours of sleep actually. Also, I’ve had some stuff to do today in fixing up the vehicle, transporting a team and moving to Azua for the day to connect with a pastor and what he’s doing. Yet, today is a day to rest. It’s time to recharge the batteries and spend a bit more quality time with my maker. I encourage you to spend time with Him too..especially if you haven’t lately! Let tomorrow worry about itself.
