Whitehaven Beach – Whitsunday Islands
If you were to Google ‘Whitsundays,
Australia’, you would find breathtaking island
pictures & tropical dream vacation
packages. The Whitsunday area is Australia’s gateway to the Great Barrier Reef,
& it attracts tourists from all around the world.

So what if I told you THIS was the
location for my mission’s work this month?! What is your honest gut reaction??

If you are thinking what I was, you’re
skeptical at how Whitsunday, Australia is a missionary destination. Why would I
be living in a wealthy tourist/ vacation area? Was being sent to the coast of
Australia instead of the
slums of Asia a cop out? Answer: No. Let me explain…

     Whitsunday attracts adventure
seeking backpackers from all over the planet. So let’s think outside of the box
for a minute… If the purpose of the mission field is
to spread the love of Christ
around the world, that means working with the ‘lost
souls’ in a
beautiful part
of Australia is just as ‘Missionary’ as working in an Asian orphanage or
African village. If my team could impact the views or lives of a handful of
world travelers, where would it spread?! Back to THEIR home country?! To the
people following THEIR journey?! Around the world on THEIR travels?! The
opportunities for impact are endless!

Our team prayer walks the streets of
Whitsunday on a daily basis. We pray for the hearts of the backpackers and
locals, and for divine appointments with them. Then we spend time out in those
same areas ‘mingling’. We spend nights playing music on the beach and having
barbeques geared towards
ministry and are intentional with every opportunity we
have in conversation.

It might surprise you at how lost,
broken, and confused the ‘free spirits’ really are
in this world... and how many
of them are currently in Whitsunday, Australia. Conversation with these people
is completely natural for me. I have a lot in common with this backpacker
community.
The dialog leads itself; I am just intentional about speaking truth
and life into whatever situation they are carrying with them.

Amongst our busy manual labor and
youth group schedules, we spend our ‘free time’ interacting with this
backpacker community.

     Whitsunday is absolutely beautiful,
and I am extremely blessed to be here.
The potential for Kingdom growth is endless. Don’t worry supporters; next month I will be back in the Asia, but for
the time being, God is using my personality and gifts to the fullest in this ‘Australian
backpacker’ mission field.

At first, I was reluctant to even
announce were my team was being sent this month,
but now I realize we were sent
here for a purpose of impacting lives. I can’t imagine a more fitting mission’s
field.
