My team changed! So, I’m now on the only girl team on F
Squad and yes, I’m excited. God’s been bringing me to a place of running away
from how I viewed guys, taking me away from wanting more of those friendships
and a heart for women. Him placing me in this season on a team of all girls was
ironic. It’s still Ally, Courtney, Shelley and Sam, but now Meghan (whose team
spent the month with us in the tiny house in Cambodia) has joined us.

We have already had lots of laughs about the silly things in
our lives, especially being all girls. One team time was dedicated to doing
this all girls normally do, like talking loud and high pitch with lots of
laughter, saying ‘like’ a lot, snapping instead of clapping, and lots of fake
smiles. This of course is all a joke and we know girls don’t really do that ”
just in the movies, and high school.

Our team name is NewSong. All of us really enjoy singing,
and we couldn’t do that much on the last team. Also, we’re all stepping into a
new season with our identity and wanting more of Jesus. We talked about Deborah
in the Bible being a woman we want to be and she even writes her own song in
Judges. We had lots of other team names I wanted to be called but Cheetah
Girls, JC Hunny Dollz (Ally’s AIM screen
name in middle school, which has gotten so many laughs among the squad
),
Little Debbies, and Celibate Sisters didn’t stick well with the rest of the
girls.

We made it to Kenya! After an 18 hour bus ride from Kampala,
Uganda to Nairobi, Kenya and then another 11 hour bus ride back to the border
of Kenya and Uganda we made it to Busia, Kenya.

We’ll be spending the month working with Pastor Gideon (we
call him Gids for short) and Deliverance Church. Each week we’re going to
different zones working with assistant pastors from the church to evangelize or
do other things in that community.

We’re staying at Pastor Gids and his wife Jane’s home. They
have a separate building just for us with two rooms, one including a shower with
low water pressure and toilet. The toilet is small, but mighty (as Ally says). Courtney,
Ally and I share a room and Courtney and I have set up a tent to share in the
room for a bug net.

We have a personal chef who will be cooking dinner for us
each night. He says he can make whatever we wanteven American food like
hamburgers.  We get to pick out the menu
and go shopping, but we hope to include some Kenyan food to get a ‘real’
experience here.
