Door to door ministry is always the same in Africa. That’s
what most ministries are here anyway. But this day was different because my mom
was with me! I was so excited for her to go and share her faith with the people
of this village. It’s one thing to do it in the states; it’s a completely
different thing to do it in Africa.
Here you can approach people without knowing them or having
a relationship with them and ask, ‘How is your relationship with Jesus?’ ‘Are you
born again?’ ‘Why do you not believe in Jesus?’ The people here invite you into
their homes and are excited to have you sit and talk to them. They just want to
listen to what you have to say no matter what it’s about.
Mom and I went with Samuel, a mighty servant of the Lord. He
took us to his house to meet his family. He shared that his grandfather was not
a Christian, but the rest of his family was. We met his aunts, cousins, nieces
and nephews. He has a big family, like many Africans do. We stopped and talked
to some of his aunts working in their field planting onions. We encouraged them
with God’s truth and love. They just stopped in the middle of their busy work and
listened. It didn’t matter what they were in the middle of, they wanted to hear
what we had to say.
I met a little boy named Meshach. I asked if he knew the
story of Meshach in the Bible and he didn’t. So, I told him to come with us so
I could tell him the story of Meshach. We sat down with him and Samuel’s
grandfather. I wanted to speak with the grandfather, Paul, and share the gospel
with him. After asking several questions, we realized he actually knew who
Jesus was and believed in God, but never asked him to come into his life. We
lead him in prayer and now we’ll see him in Heaven one day.
Then I told the story of Meshach. If you haven’t heard the
story, you’ll find it in the book of Daniel. Then mom and I shared with Paul
the story of Paul. Neither of us knew the exact details of the story and it
would have taken too long to actually read it all, so as mom says, “we muddled
through the story of Saul/Paul.
While we were speaking to them, a man walked up with
crutches and sat down. We began asking why he was on crutches and what was
wrong with his leg. He shared about an accident he had been in a few months ago
and he couldn’t move his leg. So, we prayed for healing. When we were done, he
told us he felt a cool sensation running through his leg and he began moving
it. Amazing!
It was really fun for me to be with mom during that time. I
wanted her to see how easy it could be to share your faith and be bold. She
really enjoyed it and started to ask questions and speak about her faith with his
grandfather and others too. I love that she got to see this side of ministry.
