Last night we went to the Night Market here with some girls
we’ve been hanging out with at church and the university. They come regularly
to fellowship each night . It was so much fun shopping around with them and finding
good Thai food to eat according to their standard. They accepted us into their
group of friends, grabbed our hands to drag us along, and showed us the good
places to shop. We felt so special and honored they would include us in their
group. We’re hoping that this is a core group for Ajan’s ministry, called The AMEN House.
Today we went to a church youth camp. It was so much fun
dancing and singing. I didn’t really understand what I was saying though.
I was invited on stage to do a motion dance; I guess I was
one of the best. It must be the cheerleader side of me that came out. The dance they wanted me to do on stage goes like this: it starts with touching
both knees, the crossing hands and touching both knees, then touching
your shoulders, then crossing your hands and touching both shoulders,
then putting your right hand on your nose and the left your ear, then
switching and putting the right hand on your hear and left hand on your
nose, then putting both hands in the air on the right side, then on the
left….. It was like the Thai Macarena or something.
I am trying to figure out what they want me to do on stage and I couldn’t understand what they were saying because they were only speaking Thai.
We led them in two songs of worship, then a motion song I
knew from camp – Making Melodies in my Heart. After each chorus they have to do
some motion and continue it throughout the whole song (thumbs up,
elbows out, knees bent, knees together, butt out, head back, tongue out, turn
around, jump around, sit down).
They fed us after church again with another amazing meal of
white rice, spiced beef, and fried egg. They had lots of weird vegetables too
like pumpkin and bamboo. There was an assortment of all kinds of cookies I
enjoyed the most.
Thai Macarena – touching nose and ear
After we left the church, we stopped at the mall. The mall
here is called Friday Hotel. It is only two floors including a grocery section,
men women and children’s clothing area, arcade area, food court, paper store,
electronics stop, accessory booth, and a fish spa (you put your feet in a fish
tank with gold fish and other small fish inside). It’s a very different kind of
mall with no actual stores, but they have lots of things.
Hands to the left
Oo took me to the arcade gaming area. He challenged me to a
game of air hockey. I think he thought he was going to beat me, but
little does he know I had an air hockey table in my basement growing up. I am practically
a professionally air hockey player. So, of course I beat him. Then we did the
car racing games and couldn’t figure out how to get the machines to play each
other so we had to play against the machine, lame!
Just another day in Thailand. We’ll have fellowship tonight and we aren’t sure how many will show up since it is Saturday.
God is continuing to use us here. He is giving all of us opportunities to share the gospel and share our stories. We are excited to continue to see the fruit of God here.
