One night we learned about listening prayer. Earlier this semester, I did my own study on listening prayer and my relationship with the Lord changed completely in a great way.
I was always told growing up you can have a relationship with the Lord and you can talk to him, but I don’t ever remember being told how to have a conversation with him. I think this is the same for most Christians today and for those on my squad.
After listening to Tim talk about how to listen, we put it into practice. First, we asked God what he wanted to tell us about this upcoming year. I asked and listened, and I received two words: “Beautiful Mess.”
It wasn’t because the song was stuck in my head or that I had thought about these two words before, these were directly from Him. From what I gather, this upcoming year is going to be challenging and messy, but it will be beautiful in the end.

Then we got into two circles, an inside circle and outside circle. We had a partner who was in front of us and were told to ask the Lord what he wanted them to hear. There was a girl standing in front of me and I began to speak into her the words I was hearing from the Lord. I had no specific word, so I began to encourage her.
As I did, the Lord took over and said through me that she is wanted, worthy of his love, He is chasing after her, and He will give her prophecies and visions. She loved it! She said that was exactly what she needed to hear.
It was so cool how God moved through me!!

Someone came over to me and I kept hearing the word courage. This wasn’t something I had on my mind or was thinking about previously, this was from the Lord. I spoke that over them and continued to speak words the spirit was giving me. I opened my eyes and a girl was standing in front of me. She told me that that was what she needed to hear and how God was telling her too that she needed to be courageous and step out into something new.
What a great experience! I think this opened a lot of our eyes to see how our God works. Most had never experienced anything like this before.
If you haven’t ever done this, I want to encourage you to have a conversation with the Lord. It’s as simple as it sounds. Sit down in silence and ask God questions. You can start with asking Him how He feels about you. Ask Him how you can love Him more. Ask Him anything, He is waiting.
