Cambodia has called me to lay down every single expectation and entitlement I have.

I miss Thailand…a lot. Our last week in Chaiyaphum was spent teaching at two great schools with wonderfully receptive kids and finishing up construction projects around Ram and Nun’s house. At the close of our Thailand month, my team could successively teach a room of 20 kids by ourselves for an hour, stand up at an assembly and give a testimony to 300 kids about why we believe in Jesus, construct a wall with cement powder, rocks, water and sand, drain water from a rice field and catch fish with our bare hands and most importantly, bloom where we were planted and become so close to a family on the complete opposite side of the world that we all cried and felt like we were leaving our second mom and dad.

And then we traveled into Kongtaneang Village, Cambodia. Where it is hotter than Hades, we have two hours of electricity a night that provides power to 5 wimpy fans, a squatty potty stall with water that serves to fill the toilet and wash ourselves, and we’re NOT working in an orphanage but teaching ENGLISH AGAIN to children 3-5 classes a day! Oh hey God! Thanks for throwing the most curvaceous curve ball straight into my face so that everything I was hoping for and counting on this month fell into pieces right before my eyes in a matter of days.

In our first few hours here my team and I set up our tents in the church building we’re staying in, opened the windows to experience some sort of air current, undressed to our skivvies and took a nap…we awoke to about 50 men, women and children hanging from our windows and opening our doors to stare at us. It was the most disconcerting, invasive feeling and I felt like a caged animal. We learned that this village has never seen white people before and they were naturally curious.

My whole team needs prayer right now! Pray for us to hourly lay down our entitlements. Even with all of our prior mission experience, none of us has ever felt so uncomfortable and so secluded. We had to spend a lot of money and drive pretty far for me to even post this blog.

I see this month as being super significant for my team’s spiritual growth. My team and I are learning to love each other so much because we are all we have. Our attitudes and perceptions matter to each other. We’re reading the Gospel of John together and working on cultivating a loving Christian community.

Dear Supporters – God has me in the middle of nowhere to hang out with kids and youth all day. My living situation is the kind of story that people use to write famous novels. Pray I stay in the moment and use each glorious moment for a purpose! Whether it’s talking about Jesus, helping Cambodians pronounce January without bursting into laughter or just being the first white person they have ever seen and being their zoo animal for the month, pray I do it with humility and lots of joy!
