………or Katniss which ever you prefer.
I’m writing this blog post to tell you a story that might make you smile.
So most anyone that has read this has probably at one point in time thought that I look like Jennifer Lawerence. I hear this a lot of the time from many people, people at coffee shops, people on the street, my friends, my squad, and last but not least many children in the Philippines. Well until today I’ve never actually had someone believe 100% that I was Jennifer Lawerence.
So here’s the story.
Every afternoon my team and I go to a school outside of town and bring bins of lugaw to all these children. Side note: lugaw is the food we make here in huge portions to feed to children at different schools twice a day. The main part of it are the prepackaged packs of rice, minerals, vitamins, and things like that they make in America. And then we add garlic, ginger, chicken, eggs, onion, and sometimes other leftover food. So Mady and I were standing at the back of our bin filling up this dishes, cups, bottles, whatever the children have full of lugaw. There were a couple 6th grade girls standing off to the side of the van by Mady. They were talking about the hunger games and pointing at me, somewhat confused, somewhat in awe. Then one of the girls points and me and looks at Mady and say “Katniss??” And then Mady so kindly replies “Yup!!” And shakes her head ‘yes’ very happily! I wasn’t really fully aware of the situation or what was going on, but next thing I know this girl comes up to me and gives me this huge hug! And doesn’t let go for awhile. Then she looks up at me and she is bawling! This girl is standing here hugging me and crying! Mady goes, “She just met her favorite celebrity.” All the other girls are looking at her and looking me, thinking “should I cry too? I don’t know what to do!” So I was hugging this girl trying to decide do I lie to her, or do I crush her dreams telling her I’m not Jennifer Lawerence. I lied to her. I just hugged her and talked about the hunger games and smiled lots. I sit on a throne of lies, but I couldn’t crush her dreams and break it to her. But I got to sit with her and talk, her names is Jayella and she is full of sweetness and beauty. And next Wednesday we got a date planned to play volleyball and talk about Jesus. So I guess this situation is playing in my favor, the girls are listening with intent to what i say, simply cause they think I’m their favorite celebrity. Sounds like an open door with open ears for Jesus to work through. Which is super cool, I love it here and am enjoying life so much. Also fun fact: Mady new exactly what she was doing the whole time, she has been waiting for that opportunity and she finally got it. I so wish I could tell Jennifer Lawerence, “hey I’m a foreign missionary and make little girls cry of joy, because they think I’m you.” She would think it was awesome and we would be friends. But anyway, life is great, I miss my mom a lot, I miss everyone a lot, but it’s good, Jesus is cool, and I’m so thankful to have a Heavenly Father who loves me so well and never lets me go.
Prayer request: So I’m now half way through my race, if you guys could be praying that God will be leading me and showing me where he wants me after the race, and will guide and direct me. I know he will show me the way, sometimes I just get anxious about where exactly he’s gunna take me. Thank you all so much for your support and prayers! Sending lots of love!
