WOW!! By far, one of my favorite things of Haiti has been the worship! There is something so special about the worship here and I especially felt that the first night I went to worship. Church is on the Mission of Hope (MOH) compound and quite a-ways from where our squad sleeps and eats. As I was walking down I could already hear & feel the people praising the Lord. This overwhelming feeling only increased the closer I got to the church and heard the deafening cries of worship to the Lord.

That night was the first time I ever attended a church service in a language other than Spanish or English. But it did not matter that I did not speak the same language, I did not need to know the language to feel the dwelling of the Spirit in our midst.

As I was praising the Lord I had this overwhelming sense that the Haitian’s truly grasped, they UNDERSTOOD the gravity, depth, and extent of what the Lord did on the cross. I think in America, God can be another thing on a checklist, another sense of security. We have a house, a job, a family, and to be prepared in case we die, we also believe in “God.” But here, they understand that GOD is ALL.

That night they kept saying that they were once captives but NOW they were FREE. And they were just humbled and thankful. They understood. They grasped what happened on the cross. Believing in Jesus was not just so they could have a sense of comfort or security for when they passed away, it was because He is the answer, the truth, the way, the life, The Savior. Oh, and it also just BLEW me away that they were PRAISING and WORSHIPPING the very SAME God that I praise and worship. I mean, HOW AMAZING IS THAT??!?

Worship that night was unexplainable. I left there simply giddy. I could not contain the passion, the joy, the delight I felt to worship the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty and Powerful Savior. SO if you were thinking of visiting Haiti anytime soon, I highly encourage you to do so & GO TO CHURCH you will be blown away! 🙂

This was not taken the first night, but here is church:) Look at all the men leaders in that band! Praise God!

This is Tertulia, I met her at church. The boy in the background is her nephew Jefferson. I met Tertulia the the second church service I attended. She spoke very little english and I speak VERY LITTLE french/Creole but somehow we became friends. Here is some of what I learned about her, she is 17 years old and is going to school at MOH. Her favorite verse is in Numbers and she also likes Psalm 23. When she hears a worship song she likes, she BELTS it! One of my favorite memories with her was taking communion together. I had no idea when I was supposed to take it so she was my guide through it all. Every church service I was so blessed to find her familiar welcoming face. It is so cool that the body can come together in spite of language and culture differences:)
