OH, the WORLD RACE…
Sounds like the glamourous life.
11 months away from school, work, & the stress of everyday life.
TRUST ME FOLKS.
The World Race is no vacation!
When considering the race take time to ask your self a few questions..
1. Do I trust the Lord?
This is important. Before moving on from this seemingly simple question, consider this.
If/when onthe race, You will go 11 straight months with NO CONTROL. your emotions, your diet, your living conditions, sleeping, eating & showering habits.. And pretty much everything else you could possibly think of..Completely out of control. Are you willing to give everything up to Him?
You'd have to be crazy to commit to it.
2. Am I willing to learn several different languages/ am I willing to dive into unfamiliar cultures?
This may sound like fun (eating with your hands, walking aroun barefoot in church.. Etc) but it takes a lot of willingness to be OK with some of the things you may experience in cultures that are so different from the ones you've grown up in.
You have to be crazy to commit to that.
3. Am I ready/willing to grow, stretch, and CHANGE.
We all come from different backgrounds and lifestyles. The race has the ability to change your perspective on just about everything. Meeting the people who become your new family for 11 months, and getting to know their testimonies, meeting people of all sorts of various circumstances makes you learn to love people exactly where they are, for who they are. experiencing different living conditions first hand, and diving into new circumstances every month, not to mention spiritual warfare or the inevitable & undeniable presence of the Holy Spirit. Seeing how all if thus is REAL. not just something you hear/read about. It changes you.
You would have to be crazy to commit to something like that.
4. Am I willing to live out my faith?
I'm not talking about walking down the street wearing a cross, carrying a bible or sitting in church on Christmas & Easter. I'm talking stepping up and stepping out. Calling on the name of Christ to bring healing (physically, emotionally and spiritually) and standing in front of large crowds trusting that God will give you the words to speak, standing in front of your squadmates and tearing your heart open just feel something. Because being spoiled in having so many comforts in "normal life" makes it easy to find yourself numb.
You'd have to be crazy to commit to something like that.
5. AM I CRAZY?
For considering this path in life?
NO.
For Wanting more out of life?
NO.
For desiring a deeper relationship with the Lord?
NO.
But you might be crazy if you answered yes to any or all of the previous four questions.
Don't worry, if you're not crazy just yet, the world race with undoubtedly make you crazy.
Before I began the journey just over a year ago, I probably wouldn't have considered myself TOO crazy.
(with the acception of my occasional bursts of abnormal amounts of energy)
but throughout my time in central America, Asia and thus far in Africa, I'm realizing just how crazy I have become.
I can say hello in multiple languages, I've eaten crazy things like crickets and pig intestine, I dance in church and have no problem sleeping on the ground or eating the same meal over and over and over. surprisingly, there's a sense of freedom that comes from bein completely surrendered.
Im telling you..if you have the slightest desire for more than an average life and watered down faith
Come on.. GET CRAZY!
