If you set out to change the world you will most likely fail. Changing the world is too big a task to take on by yourself. The world is big and you are quite small. Correct me if you think I’m wrong. I mean look around. There is a lot that needs to be changed. Look at yourself. How can you do it all? So why even try right? Might as well just give up before
You even start because nobody likes a failure.
No stop it don’t listen to me, get out there do SOMETHING.

It’s been said a thousand times, maybe a million even but it really does start with just one person.

It starts with an idea, a nagging feeling that someone or something could be helped if you just made a move.

Then it spreads like wildfire through inspiration and hope which are the most powerful of motivators. If someone sees you doing something they will have a push to do something as well and so on and so on. This is how a neighborhood, community, city, nation and even the world gets changed.

Now who or what are we changing? What needs change?

I’ll tell you what I’m doing this month in Ecuador and how it inspired me to change my community when I get home.

This month on the race me and my team are traveling throughout Ecuador to find organizations that are doing extraordinary things for the Kingdom, bringing love and light to their community, and need help spreading the word of what they’re doing. We are promoting unsung heroes and partnering with them so future world racers can visit them and help them do the awesome stuff they’re doing to better the world.

At first it seemed like too large a feat to just show up in a country we’ve never been before, knowing no one and barely speaking the language at all. But within two days we had an appointment to meet with an organization here in Guayaquil.

Paz y Espiranza is an international Christian organization who’s mission is to bring hope and peace to the children, men, women and poor vulnerable communities who are victims of injustice. They offer counseling and rehabilitation ( legal, psychological and spiritual) for people who have been abused physically and sexually. They work with local governments, churches and schools to empower the local community to defend their rights and promote a culture of peace.

These people are outstanding. They are actively encouraging positive change and it has inspired me to do the same in my community.

I have had this nagging desire inside of me for years but never the guts to do it. This is how I am going to actively encourage positive change in Oakland. My passion is for the homeless community where I live and work. When I get home I am going to get to know them, clothe them, feed them, and provide them with the support they need. Some people might think I am crazy and that it’s too big a task for one person to take on. There are too many homeless in Oakland. I can’t possibly make a change. But I am one more person that was not helping before so that is something. This is my passion, my cause. What is yours?
