So….my team and I were on the bus heading to our Christmas program and I am sitting next to this lady in her mid 50's, I believe. We make eye contact, I smile and we go about our way, riding and I try to make her feel as comfortable as possible because it was kind of packed on the bus. I have my backpack with me so I could carry my camera to take pictures for tonight, and carry other things in it. So it was on my lap in front of me. Next thing i know she gets off. No problem. A girl that was standing sits next to me.
Well…. there was a boy standing in the aisle who starts pointing at my bag, then the door. I am trying to guess what he is saying because he doesn't speak English. A nice game of charades. So he points at my bag then at the door again, so now I'm thinking maybe the lady left something on the bus. Then finally something said, “Look in your bag.” I looked and my wallet was gone!!! How? I have no clue!
I flipped! I was like I have to get off! So by this time it’s been several blocks by now and I have no clue even where she got off. So I jump off. My teammate Tyler jumps off behind me and we are hauling down the street! It's dark. There are people everywhere and I have no clue what this lady looks like or what she has on. All I remembered was her nails were pink with a little design. Of course I would!!!! I had so many thoughts racing through my head. I was hopeful and doubtful all at the same time! But I just knew I had to find her. My bank cards, id cards, money, were all in there. I was thinking of the hassle of canceling cards, reporting it stolen, and trying to get new cards. On top of all that we were leaving to head to another continent in a week.
So I prayed to God, “Please work this out for me. I don't care about the money because she may need it more then I do, but let me at least get my wallet back.” So I am walking and about 3 minutes later I'm walking passed a convenience stand. There are tables in front of the stand if people want to sit and have a drink. So I am speed walking passed when I see a lady sitting, drinking a coke. I am stopped by her pink nail polish. So I stop, back up, look, and told Tyler, “That is her!” He looked like WHAT?! I said, “That is her.” He said, “Are you sure?” I said, “Yes, she has pink nail polish.” LOL!
So, I go up to her and she had the most shocking gaze upon her face. She just looked puzzled, scared, and confused as I told her, You took my wallet!” I wanted to say lady, “You know who I am? The only black girl you probably done seen in your life!” She just looks at me as I try to understand the motions she is making because she speaks no English. People are looking and wondering what’s going on! She opens her bag trying to gaze in like she's looking for something, but can't find it. At that moment I saw my bag! I pointed to it and grabbed it. She is still looking shocked and then grabs the money she took out of it and hands it to me. Now she switches her act to as if she had found my bag and was giving it to me and was smiling. I checked to make sure my cards were in there. Thankfully they were all there. I just wanted to get to the Christmas program and sing our songs.
CRAZY!!!! Talk about a CRAZY JESUS MOMENT! NOTHING BUT GOD!!! Tyler and I couldn’t believe what just happened! She messed with the wrong girl. I do pray though that this incident will make her change her ways. I know she can’t get by in life by stealing from others and I know I probably wasn’t the first. ADVENTURES IN VIETNAM! My Father looks out for me!!! Thank you Daddy!
P.S. She offered me her coke too! Best part: Tyler and I got an ice cream cone to celebrate!
