My experience in India has been very enlightening and challenging.
India is a very spiritually dark place, we go from village to village telling people about the gospel, but everywhere you turn there is a temple or idols being worshipped. Many will say I believe in God, but also the monkey god, snake god, Buddha, and all the rest. In my head I’m like “WHAT” that sounds beyond ridiculous and breaks my heart. God showed me that this has been a generational curse and lies that have been passed down from generations to generations and they believe this is the only way. We are awakened to loud chants from the speakers at temples, as lies and curses are spoken over this nation into the atmosphere. There is no running away, we just pray against those words and pray that God will reign on this nation.

As I look around and the time I’ve spent here, I can’t help but to look at my life back home and reevaluate myself, and lifestyle. We take for granted the things we have and what are necessities in our life. We lived on $5 a day budget, we have to buy water that is boiled because it’s not safe for us to drink tap water, we use the bathroom in a hole in the ground, wash from a bucket, eat meals that are prepared over wood outside, and might lose the little power that we have at any second. We are blessed with the things we have in America, but going from that lifestyle to this is definitely and eye opener. Going from the things I felt like I had to have or needed to have, to seeing and being a part of communities that barely have anything makes me look at EVERYTHING differently.

Yes, they worship many idols here and if they do worship God they put him on the backburner, just with the other ones they worship. But it makes me think what things do/did I or we as Americans idolize and put before God? The word says,” place no other idols before me. They have the bare minimums here to live off of and we have more than enough. We always have to have the latest and the best, spend hundreds on shoes, clothes, whatever. We put these things before God, we will stand in line for hours to get the newest pair of shoes, watch tv for hours, etc., but how much time do we spend with God or how much effort do we put into knowing God better than we do in other things that are only temporary.

In Matthew 6:19-20 it says,” “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

So like I did, check your life and what your priorities are in life, and if it comes before God get rid of it, it’s not worth it! An idol is an idol whether it is there in America or here in India. There is ONLY ONE true and living GOD and NOTHING should come before him.
