We have finally made it! After about 55 hours of travel; including 3 planes, 10 hrs. + lay-over, and a bus ride we are here. We have been here for almost three weeks now and it’s still hard for me to realize I’m in INDIA. The people have been amazing and so hospitable. We stayed at the Covenant Church for two nights as a whole squad then went to our individual team locations.

The best airline ever, we were spoiled for our first 12 hour flight

We traveled on a tuk tuk   to the bus station with all our packs, you talking about a HOT 10 minute ride. Just sitting my body sweated felt like a “coke bottle at a barbecue”.  We felt like celebrities as crowds gathered around shaking our hands, saying hi, and starring with curiosity. The hour-long bus ride to our village was extremely crowded, but better then walking. I have learned to find the blessings in the littlest things being here.

This is how we get around INDIA!

In our village we are staying at one of the church locations, for Indian Christian Ministries. We have set-up out tents and have our own little apartments, luckily we didn’t have to build our own squatty potties, we have our very own out-house with a huge bucket for our showers! (That is what we call LUXERY!)  , and a pet chicken that creepily stares at us while in the there. The pastor & his family live in the room right next to the church, his mother we call Momma is so adorable. She has so much joy and sometimes I go, sit, and watch TV with her she always talks to me like I understand what she is saying, but I just node and smile. It’s kind of like playing a game of charades.

The squatty!

This month we are going into surrounding villages everyday sharing the gospel, it’s great because we have the freedom to make this look however we want.  So every night the environment is different, and our agenda is different, makes for an exciting month. Everyday there is a new location, new people, new environment, makes for a interesting long night.

I have been getting use to the cultural customs; eating with no silverware using your right hand only, taking your shoes off before going inside a home and church, squatty potties, not drinking the water (bottled water for us only), bathing from a huge pot, long skirts or pants, throwing trash outside (no trashcans anywhere) that is still hard for me, bulls and pigs roaming freely, no driving rules (lanes do not exist!)
