The ARTS
My second responsibility is on the Outpour Creative Team. We are working on several projects right now including a mural project that we are hoping to use as an outreach to the community. We want to develop relationships with people in the area by showing them that we care about their neighborhoods. We are looking to involve schools, children’s homes, and other NGOs to build unity amongst one another and be able to share positive messages through our art.
I am also co-teaching an art class for group of international students and three local children’s homes with kids from Burma. It is amazing to see how deep kids are. We like to give the kids a purpose behind each project and it is beautiful to see how honest they are. I recently had a boy that created a tree during our class and described how the root of the tree was a low point in his life but that the higher up you go, the better the times got, and now the tree has branched out and is full of fruit. Art class is one of the highlights of my week and I love to see the kids pushing boundaries and trying new things. I believe there is an artist in everyone and its a wonderful moment when someone discovers their ability to CREATE.
