DUBLIN
What does a day of ministry look like in place like Dublin?
In a place like Guatchu Pita, a Dominican slum, ministry is
easy. You pour your heart out to the broken, comfort the children, and
encourage the believers. In a place like an orphanage in Haiti, ministry is
easy. You hold the little kids, be the parents they no longer have, love them,
hug them, and hold their hands. But what about a place that reminds you of an American
city? What about a place where the people you meet have their toys and gadgets,
have their cars and houses, have their religions and schools and feel satisfied
for the most part?
What does ministry look like to the homeless that could care
less what you say so long as there is food in his belly?
What does ministry look like to the men in the bar sipping
on a pint of that cold dark Guinness?
What does ministry look like to the men and women that you
pass by every day?
That is something that we are here to find out. Team
Reckless is in Dublin Ireland. We are working in part with a homeless food
kitchen 3 nights a week. Of course we are talking to the guests that come in
for food. We are sharing the “word” with them. We give them food, and we look
them in the eye. I think the best thing
we can do for the homeless is shake their hands, look them in the eye, pat them
on the back and welcome them wherever they may be.
Some of our spare time we are doing bar ministry. This
literally looks like us going into a bar, buying a pint of the dark stuff, and
sitting in the bar. We look around, and meet the locals. We tell them who we
are, and why we are here. I think the best thing that we can do in that place
is set the example of what it looks like to live as a Christian. We are real
people, with real desires, and real taste buds. We are looking for friends, and
people to care about. We can encourage the believers we meet, invite the
unbelievers to follow us, and show love to those who are looking for love in a
different kind of way.
