I met up with V squad on early morning Thursday in Miami, FL. We left for Santo Domingo and stayed there for three days at a Catholic hotel. On Monday, the squad split into two groups – two teams went into the mountains for their ministry and the three others drove to San Juan. The squad received a cultural debrief from our main contact Miguel, an AIM employee who lives in D.R. with his wife and two daughters.

My team of seven, Grace Under Fire, began ministry with Iglesia Pentecostal de Jesucristo, a small, white

one-room church nestled among small houses in a rural community on the edge of town. We have been leading children’s ministry (worship, games, and two skits: the good Samaritan and David and Goliath), going door to door to acquaint ourselves with locals, and attending small, nightly community church services. Each child has incredible spirit and a ton of energy! I learned very quickly that when I give one child a piggy-back ride, then the rest of them want one too all at the same time. Talk about a chance to rely on God’s perfect strength!

On Monday, my team and I will begin ministering to adults. I do not know what this looks like yet. I thank God for bringing us this far, for what his future plans entail, and for reminding us that we are desperate for his love and guidance.

I am daily surrendering control over what I think my faith walk should look like and what I think this trip should look like. We are here to be God’s vessels and adapt to his plan. We are not the ones performing miracles or healing people. Christ is the one doing it. We are simply servants sent to be representatives of his powerful, steadfast love.
