Joy unspeakable that won’t go away,
And just enough strength to get through today.
So I never have to worry what tomorrow will bring,
Cause my faith is on solid rock,
I am counting on God.
I am currently sitting on a bus, a luxury bus mind you, on the way to Riga, Latvia. Due to some unexpected circumstances, my team doesn’t know exactly where we will be doing ministry. We are supposed to be there in three days. Normally this would give me massive anxiety, and it has for the past week, but this morning I was just flooded with a sense of peace.
During my quite time this morning I was spending some time with God, looking for that peace. Peace about leaving a ministry that I had fallen in love with, and peace about not knowing where we are going next. Peace about missing home, missing my friends, my family, my city, my church, and God ( through music like He often does ) consoled me. The above lyrics from a song by the group Desperation Band jumped out to me and were repeated over and over. Its like our Father was saying “Hey! Hey! This is the attitude to have. I got this. I am your solid rock. I will give you what you need to get through the day, the week, the year. I am sufficient.”
Its funny, the ways God speaks to His children. His timing, His methods. Sometimes He waits to speak to you. Its like He intentionally holds off, while you wallow in your anxiety, or fear, or selfishness, whatever it may be. He waits, until that moment when you turn to Him and say, “ Ok, enough of me. Give me you. All I need is you.”
Let your joy be so unspeakable that it will never go away. Ask God for enough strength to get through the here and now and He will give it to you, and you will never have to worry about tomorrow because our faith is built on the only TRUE solid foundation. Because we are counting on God, and He is more than sufficient.
