Month 6 of the World Race is now finished. It seems like
we’re flying through these months. We’re off to TOGO, which is right next to
Ghana. We just concluded a 4pm-4am bus ride to get back to Accra, plus another
30 minutes of taxi ride to our lodging.

(I will post pix when there is better/longer internet connection.)

As much as I really enjoyed the time in Ghana, INCLUDING THE
50 CELSIUS HEAT (call me insane), there are a few things that can really turn
you off from ever coming back. Here are a few smiles and frowns from my first
African country:
-The best way to cool down is to skinny dip under the
moonlight in the local pond, shared by goats, pigs, cows and sheep.
-Many children have hands of a 50 year old carpenter.
-You will be told no earlier than 15 mins ahead of time that
you need to speak at the church/school we’re about to visit.
-If Asia time is 15-30 mins late, Africa time can be
anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
“What time does the service start?”
“9:30am”

“What time does the bus come?”
“I don’t know.”
N.B. The bus came 1.5
hours later.
-Children love taking pictures a lot more than Asian
children. But so much that it can be annoying and very difficult to take one
decent group picture.
-Unfortunately, many people still lack common courtesy,
which just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth after a fantastic 3 weeks.
-Buses play screaming, poorly acted, C-grade movies
throughout the 15 hour trip, or loud radio, even if it is 3am.
-Similarly, loud talking/singing is a cultural norm, no
matter the hour.
-You can pee pretty much anywhere you please, but if there
is a public washroom, you have to pay to use it.
-You can see more animals while sitting around the motel at
Mole National Park, than if you were to actually go on a 2 hour safari ride
with a guide with a gun he has never had to fire.

TIA…TIA.
