Hello friends! It’s been weeks since my last blog post. I’m so sorry! We have been so busy this month! Going, going, going.

The ministry we are working with is called The Charis Project (http://thecharisproject.org/). They are a family from California who have settled in Thailand as long-term missionaries. Charis has three main ministries: a children’s home and orphanage up in the mountains, a rice farm, and a consignment shop and coffee bar. My team has been working with all three of their main ministries.

Here are some stories from the month!

^We set off lanterns for the annual Yi Peng Loi Krahtong festival in Thailand

^Floating Krathongs lit up the pond at the park

^this is our church, the countryside is beautiful!!

^another picture of the church in the village

^English class with the village kiddos. We sang songs, played Simon Says to learn English, acted out the forgiving debt parable, and ate watermelon. πŸ™‚

^”Teacher Whitney” teaching English in the classroom. I taught them about the calendar: days, weeks, months. “Today is Saturday November 22. Yesterday was Friday November 21. Tomorrow is Sunday November 23.” πŸ™‚ And learning the names of the months!

^Up in the orphanage on the mountain, we taught classes. My teammate Jordan taught sewing (she’s a fashion designer in NYC). My other teammate Edie, in this picture, taught hairstyling (she’s a hairstylist in Denver). She was teaching the kids how to french braid in this picture.

^Edie also taught haircutting. We decided it wouldn’t be smart to let them practice on their own hair, since their hair is already so short. So instead I had a dozen little hands give me a trim to practice! πŸ™‚ Yes I still have hair left!! πŸ™‚

^a meal to celebrate the Rice Harvest. In the middle: chicken soup and ground pork. In the banana leaves: sticky rice. Yum! It’s been wayyyy harder being a vegetarian in Thailand than it was in India and Nepal! (Hindus don’t eat meat compared to Buddhists) But I have managed to remain meat-free! Mai sai nua!! (“don’t put meat in it” in Thai!) Lotttts of rice this month.

^Street vendor food! This is roti. It’s a tortilla made with roti flour. You can either get it rolled up with egg, like seen prepared on the left in the tray. Or you can get it with banana like she’s making me here. 25 baht! (less than a dollar!) They pour sweetened condensed milk and sugar over top. DELISH!

^I had a friend from Dallas come visit me in Thailand! This is us drinking coffee and tea from a bag. How funny, huh? It was tasty!!! Only 25 baht!
