So my fundraising experience began back in January when I first found out I was accepted to the September 2011 World Race Squad!
…….And to be completely honest, fundraising is very challenging for me, mainly because I struggle with asking for help. I have always been a very independant person, I love giving and helping others, but I am very bad at accepting. God has really been teaching me so much through this experience; He has really helped me see the importance of allowing others to bless me. This is a time in my life when I really have to depend on other people for help, as there will be other times in my life when I will be able to do the same for someone else. I am actually very glad that my experience has had it's difficulties because I don't think I would have learned as much as I did if it was easy.
Throughout these past months since January, I have had great times and discouraging times. God does provide, it is just in His timing, not mine. I am truly amazed by His provision and thankful that today (June 3, 2011) my funds sit at $6,700!!! (That is SO close to being 50% of the way funded!!) I would love to share the ways in which the Lord has provided for me during my preparation time for the WR:
-I was in desperate need of a doctor (main reason-to sign my medical release forms) but also in general I needed one (long story). God provided an amazing doctor who connected me to the travel clinic in his building and who did not charge me for the physical required as a new patient because he respected this trip.
-I have had 4 large money donations: $1,100, $1,000, $500, and $400 and several $100 or more donations and even smaller ones (all are so appreciated!!)
-My first fundraiser (an indoor yard sale) was a huge success: raised $950!
-God provided me with a summer position/housing on my college's campus which means the school covers my rent
-I was blessed with a paid internship which is covering the cost of all my gear and International Insurance!
-God brought the right people along to encourage me when I was very discouraged and ready to give up-they don't know how much their encouragement and prayers meant to me
-And finally, a blessing so dear to my heart. The last time I saw my sister & my 16 month old niece was in February. I didn't think I would get to see them again before this trip. They are officially flying to Canada to visit from Kentucky from June 11th-18th. This is such a blessing, I don't get to spend much time with them so the time we do have together is very cherished. I am so thankful !
The best advice I could give someone that I've gained from my fundraising experience is to try to seek out what God is teaching you through this experience. Whether it seems like things are going good or bad, what is He teaching you that will ultimately draw you closer to Him?
