So we arrived safely in Camotan. As I mentioned in the last blog, this month my team is matched up with team Azariah to do some ministry projects. Camotan is an area that is so in need to the love of the Savior. Today we (Azariah and Fuego) broke off into 3 different teams and began to work in the local community to help bring life here.
The team that I am a part of did construction on a new medical clinic that our partner church is building to help bring medical aid into the community. It was awesome but exhausting at the same time for sure. It is mega hot here so staying hydrated is very important. We will be working on the clinic for the next few weeks in helping it get finished.
Another team is helping with a reforestization project. There is a massive food crisis here that has a lot to do with the area being stripped of all of its trees and there in not getting the necessary amount of water for the area. The church here is seeking to engage the crisis head on to be able to put a dent in the poverty of the area and provide more food for the region. They have already planted a million new trees and are seeking to do even more than this. We have a cool opportunity to be a part of this effort.
Another team is helping with the distribution of paper for classrooms for the area. Illiteracy is a major issue here. Most people over 30 can not read at all. The schools in the area have stepped up their efforts to try to educate the next generation, but the problem is that most students are trying to carve symbols into rocks because there are no supplies like paper and pencils to educate them. This is pretty eye opening and convicting in regards to just how much I take for granted. And in terms of being a part of the movement of Christ here, they recognize that for the Kingdom to grow here, people have to be able to actually read the Word of God.
In Acts 1:6-8, Jesus basically tells the disciples that they are His answer for all that is wrong in the world. The church that we are partnering with is seeking to engage every social issue for the cause of the Kingdom and all along the way, share the truth of the Lord Jesus. We had the chance to partner with some churches yesteraday through worship, sharing our stories, and some dramas to point people towards the Savior. Its been awesome thus far and we still have about 3 weeks of this left. I am loving this. Please keep praying. Miss you all.
