Hello everyone, just wanted to let y’all know that I made it to Cambodia and I’m still alive. Sorry it has take so long to update y’all on what’s going on but I don’t have wifi where I am currently living. It took us about 3 days to get to Cambodia.
When we arrived in Cambodia we landed in Phnom Phen about 12 at night local time. That’s when the squad began to brake up. There were a few teams who’s ministry hosts were in the city so they met them at the airport. But for the rest of us we got a hotel for the night and went our separate ways. The next day my team got a bus for another 3 hours to get to where we are staying this month.
We arrived at 12 to the children’s home in kampong thom. We got out f the bus and there were a bunch of little kids there to greet us. I think “hello” is the only English most of them know so that’s about as far as the greetings went, then just awkwardly smile and wave. It was awesome.
They showed us to our rooms, boys downstairs and girls upstairs and we proceeded to make ourselves at home. We blew up our mattresses and unpacked our gear with the entire children’s home standing in the doorway watching. We then spent around 10 minutes trying to communicate and it didn’t seem like we were getting anywhere. Then we heard a word we knew “futbol?” We nodded our heads as they led us out side.
I’m not sure what we were expecting, a field maybe but what we found surprised us all. It was what looked like a small pond with 2 soccer goals. What we later learned is that it near the end of monsoon season so it rains a lot. But we had no choice but to dive in. I tell you what playing soccer in 6 inches of water is not easy but a lot of fun.
So that was our very first experience here at the children’s home. 2 days after that they gave us a schedule and we started ministry, but my next post will have to cover all that. I came not knowing what to expect. All I knew was God wanted me to go and I want more of him. And He is already showing me the relationships and memories you can make when you follow Him with a yes in your spirit. That’s not to say that m perfect and there hasn’t been struggles, but Gods faithfulness will far out weigh any obstacles I will face.
