On Sunday, we followed up our hut-to-hut visits by preaching in the village church of Butende. To my great joy, one of the young men whom I had met was sitting in the front row! Apparently he had also attended the Bible-teaching seminar on Saturday afternoon (led by local church members). And, even more exciting: he was one of the fifteen people eager to be baptized that afternoon!
The baptism service was immediately after church at a small lake nearby. I didn’t have a dry set of clothes to change into for the thirty minute bus ride home afterward, otherwise I would have gotten into the water with him. I was so thrilled!
I had shared the gospel with this guy, and he had prayed to accept God’s grace and invite Jesus into his life, but so had a lot of other people. It’s not up to me to judge the sincerity of their hearts when they respond to our message – my only assignment is to share, and that I did!
And he had responded! And here he was!!
