Saturday & Sunday, January 3 & 4, 2009

10:00am

Mtatu (van) arrives. Load up. Drive to Kenya/Uganda border.

1:00pm
Greet the handful of young boys who try to sell snacks through the windows of the mtatu when we stop. Share the love of Jesus with them and sing “Trading My Sorrows” while waiting (they knew the lyrics!).

4:00pm
Arrive (late) at our destination: the village of Bugiri – with a live chicken in tow.
Greet Pastor George – who reminds us of American comedian Martin Lawrence in his appearance and mannerisms!

6:00pm
Walk twenty minutes on a dirt road into the village.
Try to politely avoid madman” who was harmlessly harassing us because we’re “mzungu.”

8:00pm
Bucket showers by moonlight.

9:30pm
Eat a very late supper.

12:00 midnight
Sleep.

3:00am
Wake up to the sounds of Jeff vomitting outside the window.  (The squad passed around a flu virus last week at debrief!)

7:00am
Wake.  Pray.  Write sermon notes.

9:00am
Church service: singing & dancing.  Prayer.
Mel and I both preached, and our sermons piggy-backed on each other without us even having discussed our topics!

1:00pm
Lunch (mmm, starch-mania!)

3:00pm
Visit prison.  Preach.

5:00pm
Visit hospital.  Pray healing over patients.  Preach to nurses.

8:00pm
Prepare overnight bag – we’re headed to a neighboring village to preach hut-to-hut …
Another bucket shower by moonlight.
Read the Bible.

10:00pm
Eat.  Pray.  Love.

There is not much time for physical rest.  We already feel like we have to be “on” all the time.  But the burden of the Lord is light.  It is a joy to do His work.
