My Team Aletheia and Team Transformers spent the month of December working alongside a ministry called SEEK: Suba Environmental Education of Kenya located near the village of Mbita on the coast of Lake Victoria

It was a gorgeous location, of course – complete with monkeys, snakes, and hippos! I was thrilled to be there!

SEEK’s ministries are diverse.

First of all, they are an awesome group of people who seek to know the Lord and make Him known. They truly care about the local community, and they have great ideas for reaching out. They made us feel like part of the family!

Secondly, they seek to create sustainable environmental initiatives: planting trees, harvesting fish in ponds, using goats’ milk for nutrition, etc. We helped plant and weed in the gardens.

Thirdly, they have a vision for uniting the youth. We hosted a couple of youth rallies/conferences, inviting young adults to join us for a day of worship and sharing. We also visited local churches each week, preaching and teaching Sunday School.

Fourthly, there is a heavy emphasis on evangelism and discipleship. We did a lot of outreach events and home visits in the neighboring fishing villages and in the bush. As opposed to secretive China, here most people are very forward and open about spirituality. We played with the children, sang worship songs, performed dramas, preached about freedom in Christ, and prayed healing over people.  It was really intense, and the Holy Spirit continues to amaze us in the way He works in / through / despite us!

I have had very limited access to electricity and to the internet this past month, so I apologize for the lack of blogs and emails. I have many more stories to tell (and photos to show!), and I hope to be able to upload them soon …

Meanwhile, I encourage you to read the blogs of my teammates and my squadmates, as all of our experiences and reflections are unique.

We are heading into Uganda this weekend for the month of January…

Please PRAY:

  • that we will have safe, easy journeys (many of us are not feeling well, and riding for ten+ hours in a hot bus with chickens across dusty roads full of potholes is not appealing!)
  • for our ministry contacts in Uganda – that they (and the local communities whom we will serve) will be prepared to receive us
  • for the ministries we partnered with in Kenya – that their good work would continue
  • for unity, as teams and as the Body of Christ
