The 2008 Seoul Foreign School alumni of the year award goes to … Chris Rice!

This man – a missionary kid and former student at the international school where I work in Korea –
wrote an amazing memoir called Grace Matters
based on his own experiences living in a deliberately interracial faith community
in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1980’s and 90’s.

These white and black Christians wanted to

practice what Jesus preached
In addition to growing closer in their relationships
with the Lord
and with each other,
they were better able to minister to their inner-city neighbors.
They knew first-hand that
reconciliation wasn’t easy,
but it wasn’t impossible either.

The intentional efforts of this community to treat each other with GRACE
inspired me when I first heard about it,
and their struggles and successes both will continue to encourage me
during my year on the World Race.
