Show me the money!  And I’ll show you the stewardship!

In an effort to be transparent with you, here is a summary of how I will use the money you donate to support me.

AIM (Adventures in Missions) is a not-for-profit group and a member in good standing of Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (www.efca.org).  They try to do everything in a way that is cost-effective.  Given the unique nature of the World Race, a lot of the money is spent on travel and translators.  But, since we visit poor countries, very little money is spent on food and lodging (we camp out a lot!).  My team is given a strict budget to follow, and we are expected to report back (with receipts) to AIM regularly.

All personal expenses like toiletries, clothing, souvenirs, entertainment, sight-seeing, and extra food (like coffee or ice cream) are paid for by my from my own money.  Other than that, though, I am not allowed to support myself with my own money – that is very frustrating and humbling for me, but it is part of the missionary life.  AIM directed me to Bible passages that explain the theory behind support-raising, and I am trusting God to provide.

Here are the numbers:

65% is used for direct expenses like travel, food, lodging, and ministry expenses

25% is used for indirect expenses like set-up, training, debrief, and leadership

10% goes to administrative costs

More specifically,

27% air travel

21% ground travel

24% food, lodging and ministry

12% debrief and training

6% recruiting, PR, and IT

10% Administrative costs
