When I talk to most people about the Race they say things like, “That’s so cool! I can’t imagine doing that,” and “Wow, that takes a lot of courage!”

I find this very interesting. Because although these things are completely true- I am super excited for this once in a lifetime opportunity and it is a huge leap of faith- really, it feels like this is the natural next step the Lord’s put in front of me.

Not that the decision was easy of course, far from it! There are so many things that could have stopped me from answering this call (the frightening idea of fundraising being at the top of the list!). But nevertheless, I’ve made the decision to be obedient to what God’s asked of me.

Yes, it is a sacrifice. For a whole year. Away from family and friends and hot showers and comfort foods like mac n’ cheese and ice cream. A year with a group of people I’ve yet to meet in person, but will soon be spending life together, serving together and growing closer to our Father together. A year that I cannot pretend to know how it will unfold.

Yet, when we’re on the path Jesus has marked out for us, things become way more clear. He truly is a lamp that lights each footstep, never quite showing us the details of end of the road, but giving us compete confidence that we’re on the right track.

And that’s where this peace comes from. I know the Lord decided long ago that this would be part of my journey- He’s just been waiting for me to figure it out!

And so, I’ve said yes because he couldn’t have made it clearer. This is where he wants me for the next year, and I’m delighted to follow him!

Jesus wants us to know who he is and to love people. And I’ve learned that this is so hard to do if we stay comfortable where we are. He tells us that we really can have a fulfilling life, but we have to be willing to sacrifice whatever keeps holding us back. Once we make this decision in our heads and in our hearts, he asks us to take the first step- to GO.

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, GO and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  – Matthew 28:18-20
