Did you know that 48% of people in the world live below the poverty line?
(That’s $2 USD a day)
That’s less than we spend on Starbucks.
23% of people in the world have no shelter.
How many homeless people do I know?
13% of people do not have safe water to drink.
Have I ever even met anyone who doesn’t have access to clean water?
Only 7% of people in the world have a college degree.
17% are unable to read or write.
63% of people groups are unreached. meaning they have never heard of Jesus Christ. Ever.
If I’m honest a lot of my life has always been about Me, My needs, My wants, My comfort. As the rest of the world is struggling it is easy to ignore because we have it so good, or even seeing it as “the way things are” and that’s just what it will always be. In the words of another world racer “The Race is going to take that skewed, self-projecting world view I have and DESTROY IT
On this journey I will never be able to go back to believing the world is a kind, safe, and “reached” place.
And neither will any of my teammates or the 1,000 other Racers who will launch next year. Or the year after that, or the year after that.
The Race is taking a generation – my generation – and forcing us to see what we don’t want to.
So many people in the world are in so much need.
And my safe, simple little life is so far removed from that need that I don’t even care.
I wake up in the morning and worry about my hair. I go to sleep at night content with my efforts for the day. I go about my business, oblivious to all the suffering that is Earth.
And Adventures in Missions is going to change that. They’re prepping a generation to see and to care more than we have in a long, long time. More than most of us ever have.
The race is taking my generation. The generation who spends more time taking selfies than caring for the elderly or in need, and forcing us to care about Gods people.
And that change, that caring is why I am so proud to be a part of WorldRace.”
