Throughout September, we've dedicated our Wednesdays to stories about our Unsung Heroes, ordinary people doing extraordinary ministry right where they live. You might have thought, "These people sound so great! There has to be a way that we can tell their stories or honor them with a really great award or something?"
We're glad you think so. So do we. Over the last few months, we've nominated hundreds of Unsung Heroes from all over the globe and on October 28, we're throwing a huge celebration in their honor. Our founder, Seth Barnes, is here to tell you all about it.
Over the years, I've met hundreds of people who are quietly changing the world. They live stories of sacrifice, risk, and heartfelt love. But many of them at times feel alone — struggling for support as they pour themselves out.
We wanted to celebrate the unsung heroes all over the globe who are making a difference. The Oscars, the Golden Globes, the CMA's — all these nights celebrated people who have given their all to their industry. Why couldn't we do the same for people advancing the kingdom of God?
That thought led to the start of the Epoch Awards.
Epoch exists to celebrate those unsung heroes that quietly change the world day-by-day. Those people who have given their lives, resources, and callings to further the gospel and be the hands and feet of Jesus. Epoch honors the unsung heroes; the people who cross the street or the world to serve where poverty, drought, HIV/AIDS, sex trafficking, homelessness, and fear reign.
For these heroes, this is more than doing a good deed — this is life.
We've put together a red carpet celebration at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theater. We give away awards totaling $50,000 to honor and fund the ministries of our heroes.
The evening will offer both celebration and challenge for all of us to address universal problems in unique and meaningful ways that dignify and set people free. It will be a night to remember. A little glimpse of heaven as we say "well done" to the faithful servants of our generation.
