I stand, supporting Debra's weight as she tentatively places her feet on the concrete floor. If it weren’t for my arms holding her up, it would’ve been impossible for her to stand. But with every step, no matter how meager, she moved forward faithfully.

I praised and encouraged her to take one careful step after the other. Her feet were inverted and weak, but she kept on one foot at a time. I could feel her resolve, she just needed the support — she couldn't do it alone.

I drew her close, congratulating her; in that moment, my heart was so full with complete and utter adoration I thought I was going to burst.

That’s when it hit me. In this life: we’re all Debra.

We’re all children, born into a world that left us as crippled sinners. Our Father however, picks us up and tells us we can walk — he's there to support us. He holds us gently, patiently, encouraging us to take one step after another. No matter how small.

Why would he choose us?

For His glory, and inconceivable joy.

As we walk with Him, we begin to discover new things about the world around us. Our legs begin to strengthen in the course of time, and His utmost desire to walk with us is fulfilled.

It is for His glory that He invites us to walk with Him in this life, and for our inconceivable joy for when we do.

How beautiful the Lord's use of the smallest people in our lives, to teach us the greatest things.
