Can you believe August is almost over?! In a few weeks, the September 2011 World Race launches. Then in over a month, the October 2011 B squad, the last one of the year will launch. It could be your turn at the start of 2012. Here’s a list of few reasons why you shouldneed to go in January (& who doesn’t love lists?)
- You’ll go to El Salvador: The MS-13, one of the world’s most dangerous gangs, was a by-product of civil war in Central America:
…The training we got during the war in our country served to make us one of the most violent gangs in the United States.
– Ernesto Miranda, veteran of Salvadoran Civil War and co-founder/former member of MS-13This route’s your opportunity to impact the next generation in El Salvador, which, by the way, isn’t included in any of the July routes. What might a day of the World Race in El Salvador look like? Check this out.
- You’ll get media training: Are you *that* gal who
always carries a camera around or *that* guy who never goes without his Moleskine notebook? Jesus often told stories to teach the disciples and the future of missions is evolving around storytelling. We’re offering a two-day media training seminar
at Adventures in Missions headquarters that’ll take place prior to training camp for the January 2012 routes. Professional producers, screenwriters, and photographers will teach you how to communicate your stories more effectively, and help refine your skills. If you’ve any bent towards photography, cinematography, or writing, this seminar is for you; these industry professionals believe in the World Race, who we are and what we do, and they want to equip you. - You won’t miss Christmas: This is a big one. For most people, there isn’t a better time to leave. Leave after New Years and home in time for Christmas. Great way to start and end a journey. Otherwise your Christmas may look like this (thanks, Emily Tuttle for the video!):
- It’ll be a New Year’s resolution you can keep: Start the new year living a better story. You’re not the resolution making type, you say? That’s what Tiffany Handley of the January 2011 V squad thought., too. Are you tired of wishing you could travel the world? Here’s your chance to just do it.
- You could be like Jake! Who’s is this Jake, you ask? Well, Jake Morris just happens to be one of the three kickin’ squad leaders of the January 2011 U squad and will be our next Featured Racer (coming real soon!). The aspiring doctor and some of his U squadmates experienced God healing 100 people in Mozambique through their prayers. One of the reasons why he decided to go in January?
I will be back in time to interview for med school. It’s a perfect time to leave for a lot of reasons…
Take it from the brainiac (so we hear) — going in January was a smart decision.
