The July & August 2011 World Racers have been back from training camp for over a week; here’s a very small sample of some of the reflections. (They shared a few thoughts during training camp here & here)

It would take me pages and pages to try to tell everything that happened and even then I couldn’t portray it like it truly was. Here’s some things that were meaningful for me during the week:

  • Inner healing. There was a focus on letting go of our past, emotional baggage we were carrying, forgiving ourselves and others. Getting rid of this helps us to be able to serve others better and bring them freedom, life, and hope.
  • Recognizing the freedom I have in Christ
  • Learning about different countries and their cultures. We ate authentic foods from different cultures, learned about the customs, languages, and various living situations that we might encounter.
  • Realizing the power I have as a child of God to speak life and freedom to others, be able to heal, and the power of prayer.

Stephanie Bernotas chronicled her training camp reflections in three parts:

Never before have I experienced such a radical, drastic, quick, and awesome change as I have this past week. My world literally has done a complete 180, and I couldn’t be happier. Life before was so good, and life now is also so good.

Jessica Walton indulges our love for lists; you know you’ve been to training camp when:

  • Wet Wipes = Bathing
  • Fording the river happens in real life, not just Oregon Trail
  • Food drops on the table/floor/ground and you don’t think twice about eating it
  • Men ask for directions (and even read directions)
  • Strangers become family in 9 days

from Stephanie BernotasOf the many post-training camp blog posts this editor has read, Steve Ticknor’s is a personal favorite; forthright, frank, and funny, Steve “keeps it real”:

Training camp in one word: Disturbing.

Nope, I need more words to describe it. Frightening. Draining. Shocking. Discomforting. But in a strange sense, fulfilling.

Although I cannot share the details of camp with you (due to the protection of future Racers’ experiences as well as the fact that I still haven’t yet wrapped my head around what happened) I can tell you that it left me frightened of the Race.

Now of course I’ve known the worries of disease, danger, and simplistic living that the Race held before I went to camp. But I gained another disturbing fear: the fear of God.

We’re soon going to unveil another route of the World Race for 2012. Stay tuned
