Our days begin bright and early with prayers for our ministries in Malaysia, individual/team devotions, and prayer walks. This is about a 3 hour period first thing in the mornings. From noon to 2:00pm we work in the restaurant. It’s pretty fast paced, and very busy! Some of us worked the register, some waited on the tables, and some helped prepare the food.
This month has been filled with different ministries. Other ministries include:
-home Bible studies
-community feedings
-skits, and dramas in the local churches
-children ministries (songs and games)
-speaking/preaching when asked…typically on the spot
-ministering in the Red Light district-prostitution
-teachings on spiritual warfare every week
-a few days spent ministering to churches in the jungle
-visiting an orphanage
The home Bible studies were always powerful. The people here are so hungry for the Word of God. It’s inspiring really. Some nights we visited groups in their homes, and other nights people would come here to where we were staying.
The community feedings were eye opening. So many people would show up for a plate of warm food and a cup of tea. Our team would take the trays of tea to the people then try and have a conversation with them and learn their story.
The skits were usually awkward. The kids seemed to like them, and it’s always good to hear them laugh. We preformed the drama “Everything” by Lifehouse a few times (YouTube it). This one was more serious, but honestly we enjoyed it.
Working in the Red Light district was an experience. Heartbreaking to say the least. God rewarded our willingness to reach out to His children by blessing us with amazing relationships with some of the girls we met there. The foundation has been laid. Pray that the ministry contacts and their teams will continue to fight for these girls.
Each week a man from the area visited the restaurant to have conversations with us about the spiritual aspects of this part of town as well as the city of Kuala Lumpur. It’s quite interesting to hear about what we’re up against.
We headed out to the jungle for a weekend and lead 7 worship services while also providing children’s ministries. It was pretty humbling each time our van pulled into a new village. The families filled the streets and children couldn’t stop laughing and pointing at us!
One of the days that I will cherish for quite sometime is the day we visited an orphanage. Again, we did our skits, our songs, the games, everything we knew. Almost every minute I would randomly run out to the kids and high-five them all yelling the whole time. The kids would start yelling, laughing and holding their little hands up waiting for me to make my rounds. Before we left, we prayed over them then waved good-bye. A group of them came to me with big smiles on their faces and gave me a hug. This was the most rewarding moment of the World Race yet for me. Like many things, I can’t explain why. I wanted them to have a good time with us and laugh, yell, scream, sing with us, enjoy our skits, and know that we love them. So when a crowd of them came to me for a hug, it was heartwarming. Maybe that’s it. We see so much that breaks our heart and feel so helpless at times, that perhaps this was God giving a “Well done.” And I needed it.
