There are many precautions you take before traveling around the world for 11 months. One of the things involved in this process is deciding what you're going to do to help prevent yourself from catching Malaria. If you choose taking Doxycycline, it involves taking a pill EVERYDAY for a week before entering a Malaria area, EVERYDAY while in the country, and then EVERYDAY for two weeks after you leave the country with Malaria. For my teammate Amanda and I, we took this medicine EVERYDAY for the first 10 months until we reached Eastern Europe where Malaria was no longer an issue. Needless to say, we had to celebrate taking our final Doxy pill of our trip!!! And what better location than the Baltic Sea?!
