EVEN THE SUN GIVES PRAISE
A young man stares vehemently into the bright orange sunset. A peculiar conversation takes place…
You are a bold, radiant star. How many of your kind exist, Sun?
More than a septillion.
Is that even a real number?
I’m afraid so.
Ok, so how big are you?
Well, I go by mass. 1.989 x 10^30 Kilograms.
So?
333,000 times the mass of Earth.
I think it’s safe to say you are gigantic.
Ha, talk to my buddy Canis Majoris… now that’s gigantic.
How much does it weigh?
59.67 x 10^30
Wow. And you two are just dots in the universe.
Just a grain of sand on a big beach.
Makes me feel really small and insignificant.
Small, I’ll agree. Insignificant, I’ll beg to differ.
Explain yourself.
Well, God thinks you are very significant. He created you as well.
Whoa, whoa! Hold up. You’re telling me the Creator of the universe created and cares about tiny me?
Oh yes. He loves you.
Loves me?!
Yeah, yeah. He wants to be your best friend.
This is a joke, right? Best friend? Doesn’t He have better things to do with His time, like take care of you and all of those other stars or whatever?
It’s all been taken care of actually, because His design is perfect.
So, what… He just wants you to sit there all day and provide me heat and light?
I guess you could put it that way. I am made to reflect God’s glory and give worship.
I don’t think this great God you speak of, who created everything around me, would want to be my friend. I’ve done some pretty bad stuff.
Yeah, you’ve messed up, but that’s why there is Jesus.
Who is Jesus?
Jesus is God in flesh, who came to your planet and sacrificed his life for every sin you have committed, do commit, and will commit.
A dead guy saved me from my sins? Come on.
No, no. Here is the best part!… Because Jesus is the Son of God, He rose from the dead and is alive with God in heaven. You can have a relationship with God through Jesus!
And I’m just supposed to accept all this as true?
That’s up to you. You have to decide what Truth is. Though, take into consideration that Jesus claims he is The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
He’s worth my time and energy?
Worth every second.
Will He disappoint me like my other friends?
Never.
The sun fades behind a hill and out of sight. Silently, the young man looks skyward for a brief moment, then turns and walks away in deep thought.

He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies
Is always by my side…” -Chris Tomlin from “Whom Shall I Fear(God of Angel Armies)”
