God spoke to me through a wasp…
I know, im saying some of the craziest things to you. Again, i have something for this.
This event that i am going to relay to you is by far my favorite encounter with God because it not only taught me a huge lesson about his Grace, but also helped me fight Fear.
My family has owned a piece of property next to a lake for a very long time. On it there is a trailer home we used for storage. To me it was a War Room. Where i would go to have alone time with God.
One particular day i was trying to study the Gospel. I think i was in John. Regardless, i had not expected the test that had come.
So let me pause and put into context an important detail about me. Im terrified of Bees. Or wasps. Or anything that buzzes when it flies. They only want to murder us. Thats my rationalization. So laugh it up. They are probably plotting against us now.
So while I am reading, i hear the classic tapping against the window that we all recognize. A bug trying to escape through glass. In this case it was a wasp. After looking up at it, i disregarded it and turned my attention back to reading. Then the Lord spoke to me. ” go pick up that wasp, and carry it out the door”
I stopped breathing. Felt like forever. I pretended like i didnt hear it and went back into the Word.
I heard it a second time. ” Go pick up that wasp with your hand and carry it out the door.”
A very specific set of directions that could not be ignored this time. So I made the mistake Moses had made. I did what He asked, but my way. I picked up a paper, guided the wasp on and walked him out the door.
Feeling accomplished i returned to my study. A few minutes later the tapping returned. Somehow he had gotten back in. I instantly felt the presence of the Lord telling me to pick it up with my HAND and carry it outside.
So with sweaty palms and shaky hands i drew close to what i feared. I almost got him too but he started buzzing around and i totally chickened out. So i did the same thing. Took him out on some paper.
You can probably guess what happened next.
If you guessed that he came back, you woyld be right. Clearly God was trying to show me something. So this time, holding my breath and moving unrealistically slow, i managed to get him on my hand. My heart felt like it had stopped. I still hadnt breathed out. In my hand was something that had scared me my whole life. I had to trust God. Sure enough, i carried him out in my hand and set him free.
So what did i Learn?
1) God will ask you to do things outside of your comfort zone, and even if it isnt done right the first time, he will ask again if it need be.
2) when God calls you to do something for him, you will be protected. No harm will fall upon you so long as he is bringing you to it.
These lessons still come to mind every time i have a talk with God. So when it came time to start applying for this Race, i knew what i needed to do, and i knew i could trust God and overcome my fears.
I will never stop learning, and if it takes something silly as a wasp to learn, then i will joyfully accept it.
God bless you. I hope this spoke to you.
