OH MY GOODNESS, GET EXCITED!!!! We're gonna look SWEET!
INDIA!
We have received info on the dress requirments for our time there, and what our contacts will expect from us as far as clothing goes. Below are the recommended guidelines from AIM and our India contacts. It's actually going to be awesome getting to start off this race by jumping right into another culture, a VERY DIFFERENT culture. So let's do this great, ya? Let's respect and honor our contacts, and the Indian people with dress code. I'm actually SO stoked for how I get to be 'Indian' for a month. SO AWESOME!!! Let's be the best lookin' pimped out classy group of young adults from America this continent has ever seen! well, maybe we can get close ๐
So read up below, and repack (if necessary!) hehe ๐
Thank you guys,
Nollis! ๐
INDIA IS A LOT MORE CONSERVATIVE THAN THE US and we need to be culturally respectful in our clothing choice- even when traveling. The contacts are going to give the teams cultural briefings upon their arrival but I thought some of the information on dress would be important for the squad to know before they arrive so they can prepare appropriately. Traveling in India is a little different than any other place on earth and while there is no way to adequately prepare the Racers for all that they will encounter I believe it will make them much more comfortable if they are aware of these considerations. Many of the women will probably purchase punjabis or local dresses but I wanted to be aware of the people on a tight personal budget.
Some of the pretty consistent requests are listed below:
Dress Requirements
Our dress requirements are based on what is culturally accepted as appropriate among Christians in India.
– Clothing must be extremely modest.
– No tight fitting clothing is permitted.
– No tank tops or similar attire. Ladies must cover their shoulders, upper arms and legs.
– Ladies must wear skirts or dresses which extend down to the upper part of the ankles or lower. Sew up any high slits in skirts or dresses before coming. Another solution is to pin the slits securely. The wearing of saris and Punjabis is ok.
– Men must wear long trousers. No shorts in public. The wearing of jeans is discouraged when ministering in public. Jeans are fine when traveling or during your free time.
