I have officially been in Honduras for one week. It has been a week of challenges, firsts, freedom, and a lot of other stuff. So I’m going to break it down for y’all by day.
Day 1
We arrived in Tegucigalpa, Honduras by plane. This is the capital of Honduras. We grabbed our baggage and headed through customs. Then, we jumped on a bus with our ministry contact Tony and headed to Zion’s Gate. The whole squad is together for month one. We then got our briefing from Tony about ministry this month. Tony has taken in boys from the streets of Honduras and is discipling them. He has such a heart for these kids. He has some awesome contacts within Honduras and has set up our ministry schedule. Different teams will be sent out to different ministries for the next few weeks.
Getting to Honduras and meeting our ministry contact has reminded me of why I am here. Launch was a little difficult for me. I had this weird homesickness. However, arriving here has reminded me of the call God spoke to me in Mexico 10 years ago.
Random Facts about this month:
- We are sleeping in our tents. My team (7th Sparrow) have set up camp inside. Inside translates to what use to be a well know bar complete with dance cages. Tony has done an awesome job fixing it up.
- We will be taking cold showers all month. This is way better than no running water, so I am okay with it.
- You do not flush toilet paper down the toilet in Honduras. It goes in the trash!!
- We will be washing laundry by hand
Day 2
We have the awesome opportunity to get to hang out as a squad for a few days. Today we went to one of the national parks. It was an awesome time of fellowship. We hung out and then walked up to the Jesus statue to pray for the city. We also got to see a monkey out in the wild. It was really pretty crazy. It was so used to people that it allowed some of my squadmates to put it in their laps.
Random Facts about the day:
- Remember to bring toilet paper with you, because most public places do not have it.
- Honduran Spaghetti rocks!
- God breaks chains
- My random hiccups are out in full force!
Day 3
We had an awesome breakfast, French toast and eggs, yes we are spoiled here! We also get
today for some more squad time.
Random Facts about today:
- God is breaking chains in our squad and building unity. Yeah!
- Co-ed bathrooms are quite funny
- God is awesome!
- I’m in Honduras!!!
Day 4
It is monday. We were originally suppose to start mininstry today, but our leaders thought it would be more beneficial to spend some more time together to build our squad. After all it's all about laying a strong foundation together. It has been such a blessing to learn about different individuals on our squad.
Day 5-6
These days deserve a blog of their own. All you need to know for right now is we stared minstry and it has been crazy, challenging, and ultimately amazing!!!
So theres a brief overview of what life has been like this past week in Honduras. I am totally blessed to be here. Right now we are on day 8. Its our day off, so we are hanging out at the mall. We already had some team time and ate T.G.I Friday's, which was AMAZING!!! Now its wifi time. Yay!
