Wow…it’s been several days since I last blogged. Life got a little crazy as we had debrief (the time where our teams come together for several days to regroup). It was a crazy couple of days and a lot happened, so I’m sure I’ll be blogging about that soon. Then we made the crazy trek to Rwanda with a 28 hour bus ride. For now, I’ve made it to Rwanda safely and Andrew and I are taking a couple of days to regroup, reflect, and spend some time with Jesus. So as I sit looking out over the city, I am reminded to finish my thoughts on inheritance that I started two blogs ago. If you’ve been reading, I hope that you’ve been thinking about the concept of inheritance and what that looks like for you. Here’s what I’ve found:

So I’ve figured out that there is an inheritance available. I’ve also figured out that I have access  to that inheritance because I’m a daughter of the King. And the question I posed was, “what does inheritance look like?”

I’m not living in my earthly inheritance, the wealth of my parents that I could be living in. Nope, rather than nice hotels, enjoying expensive meals, and having everything I want materialistically speaking, I am living out of a backpack, eating far too much peanut butter and rice to get my stomach full, and getting excited when the ghetto hostels have running water… and I love it. Why?
Because I’ve found that living in kingdom inheritance- the inheritance that comes with salvation in Christ, far exceeds any monetary inheritance here on earth. Because I’ve found that God’s inheritance changes everything and
fulfills like nothing else.

I didn’t even realize that I had access to my inheritance in Christ right now. I thought it was riches stored up in heaven that we would receive when we died. That we would just try to do our best until we got to heaven and bring as many others with us as possible while the world just keeps getting worse. Oh how wrong I was. God calls us to more right now. To bring heaven to earth.

God has His riches stored up for us in heaven…for when we’re ready to receive them. He has so much favor and so many blessings to pour out onto His children. With Jesus’ death and resurrection, we receive an inheritance- that is, the new covenant. The new covenant is abundant riches. This is what I learned about in the Philippines.

Hebrews 9:15 says, “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the
first covenant.”

My study Bible describes the New Covenant that Jesus brought as this: that God’s laws have become inner principles; that God and His people have intimate fellowship; that sinful ignorance of God will be removed forever; and that forgiveness of sins will be an everlasting reality. So basically, this new covenant promises me closer relationship with my God and freedom from sin and bondage. Back to my tangent about what I learned in each country. Freedom is what I learned about in Malaysia. Freedom in Christ is a beautiful thing. No longer am I subject to sin or the chains that have so long held me captive. I don’t have to be legalistic and follow a set of rules, work to earn my salvation, or be a certain way for God to accept me. It also means I can live free of my past failures and the lies I hear from Satan. Freedom. It’s beautiful.

God’s inheritance is the new covenant- living in freedom through redemption in Christ. Okay…that sounds nice in Christianese terms, but what does that look like practically? We can look at the examples in the Bible of those who lived out the new covenant in the New Testament and we can look at God’s promises to those who are in Him. I’m not going to go through each one I’ve found, but here’s a brief summary:

Ephesians 1 says we have been “blessed with every spiritual blessing, redemption has been lavished upon us, insight into His mysteries will be given to us, and we’ve been sealed with the Holy Spirit as a promise.”

And if we live in this blessing, have been redeemed, have insight into God’s mysteries, and if the same Holy Spirit lives in us that lived in those living in the New Testament church, I’ve learned we have access to:

·         Intimacy with our Creator

·         The ability to actually know God’s voice and hear what He is saying

·         Being a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17) and seeing God redeem ruined places in our lives (Is. 61:4)

·         God will act on your behalf and fight for you (Is. 64:4)

·         Complete freedom from addiction, abuse, past sins, generational sins, curses, and lies from the devil

·         Seeing people healed physically, emotionally and mentally in Jesus’ Name

·         Captives will be set free and broken hearts will be mended (Is. 61)

·         We will receive visions, dreams, prophecies and will see an outpouring of His Spirit (Acts 2)

·         Unity in the body of Christ…especially in His church

·         Favor on your life with God and with people

·         People will be saved in great numbers

·         Demons will be cast out and the dead will be raised

·         We will receive spiritual gifts, knowledge and wisdom

·         We can receive the nations as our inheritance (Psalm 2:8)

·         Authority in Christ and victory over evil

·         Unspeakable joy, hope with expectation, and peace that surpasses understanding

·         Living in the Promised Land

There is so much more, but this blog is getting long and honestly, to realize your inheritance, you have to find it for yourself. Ephesians 1:17-18 says that we need to pray to receive the spirit of revelation and wisdom and that the eyes of our hearts would be opened so that we can: 1. know the hope of His calling, 2. know the riches of His inheritance, and know the surpassing greatness of His power towards believers.

So I challenge you to ask. Ask God to reveal to you what living in your kingdom inheritance looks like.

You’re His child.

He loves you.

You’re His favorite.

He won’t withhold from you.

And then what?

You walk in it. That’s the word I received in Kenya. Walk in your calling Tricia. Stop being an infant and embrace God’s goodness. Boldly walk in your gifting and walk like you trust God will actually deliver. So just to summarize and show that what God has taught me these last 5 months are really connected to one thought:

Jesus Christ ‘s death and resurrection has brought about the new covenant  (freedom through Jesus Christ living in us).Because Immanuel is living in us, we have access to our inheritance today. Our inheritance is God and the Promised Land we live in as a result. Once we realize this inheritance, we must walk in it! And then it hit me, this is our identity. Our identity is found in Christ and He sees us as His children whom He wants to restore, redeem, and bless.

mmmm that’s good. Hopefully now you can see why I am so excited. So after all this study and revelation from the Lord, after learning who can take a hold of this inheritance, what this inheritance looks like, and the simple fact that this changes everything- my question to myself and to others who are in Christ…

Are you living in your true inheritance?
