“The Spirit of David…”

The seed that’s planted inside of you is the seed that all of creation is moaning, groaning and awaiting for you to reveal what’s hidden deep down inside of you. It’s through the power of self discovery that your story will be told as your destiny unfolds. This was the cliff notes version from a recent message I was able to deliver to a number of men serving 1 to 3 year sentences in the Kitale, Kenya Annex Prison.

As I looked across the crowd of young faces full of promise I realized that I am speaking to myself and many other on international and domestic soil that need to step into inheritance in a whole new way. God has called us all to a destiny. This destiny, for most, will go unfulfilled because many are too focused on the circumstances that may not seem favorable and wait for the situation to be just right before stepping out in faith. This is the wrong course of action. We are called to faithfully dance like David danced. And fight like David fought.

God has a plan and it requires the faith of a mustard seed hidden inside of you that must be discovered. We must harvest the seed within so the eternal benefits can be reaped for His glory and we can experience intimacy with Him.

As I stood there and preached the Word for about 20 – 25min,  I pressed these young men hard about their identity in Christ and who He has called them to be, regardless of their circumstances. I shared the truth that has recently been a revelation to me in ways that make this even more related then I originally thought. As I closed I felt God asking me to pray for these men and ask them if they knew 3 things about themselves.

1.) Do you know your a child of God? (Your sins are forgiven when you receive the love of the Father through the Son. It’s up to you to decide if you believe that enough to repent and lean on the understanding of the Father. Receive His grace so that you may have His peace and rest in His presence.)

2.) Will you take a stand for what’s right and make a change in your life and the lives of those around you by choosing Him? (There are many children in the city of Kitale who need to know what a real Man of God looks like. They need role models. They need examples of how to worship God and serve others. They need to know what it means to pray from your knees and love your wife like Jesus loves the church. Will you answer this call on your life that has and will always be your destiny?)

3.) From this day forward will you begin to see yourself the way that He does? You are His beloved.
(I see worship leaders, pastors, deacons, teachers, evangelists, prayer warriors, healers, prophets and those who know they are God’s beloved.  He knows your heart and has a plan for your life. Will you worship Him and seek His kingdom so that heaven can come to earth?)

I stood there and asked another question about open hearts as Pastor Geoffrey translated. And at first nothing happened. So I wondered..then waitied. “what did you say?”, pastor Geoffrey asked me. “Is there anyone here who wants to give their life to Christ and seek His will for their life?” I said. “oh, oh…ok..”, he said. Then pastor Geoffrey translated and I watched hand after hand after hand go up and I then I asked him. “what did you just say?” he looked at me and said, “well, I misunderstood you when I first translated. I asked if there was anyone who wanted to give their life to Christ and seek Him kingdom and will for their life.”  And by the time I looked up at the crowd every single hand was raised. I looked at pastor in astonishment and said, “all of them?” “All of them”, he said.

God, I don’t know why you chose me, someone so unworthy to be here to share your truth with such humble souls who thirst for your presence. But I am thankful that 100 Men of God will stand for you, fight for you, believe in you, trust in you, live for you, seek you, lead for you, learn from you and understand they are loved by you. And I count myself amoung the 100 who on this day (Feb. 18, 2010) that will worship You and call myself God’s beloved.

There were no cameras allowed inside the prison. But I can tell you it was a moment I would not trade for anything in the world. I was moved with total peace and awe towards the power of God. Although, I wasn’t able to get pictures of the moments these young men stepped forward and committed (some recommitted) their lives to Christ, I was able to get a few pics outside the prison gates. I pray that you are as blessed this day as I was on that day by their pure worship and thanksgiving for all that God has done.

If there was ever a call for the men of our time to stand, it’s now! The world is made for us to claim our inheritance as heirs to the throne of God. But because of our selfish focus on our own sin and shame for generations, we’ve missed out on the glory of God’s presence that lives inside us. It’s about the seed within. His presence in us thirsts to be put into action and display the glory of God through us. Our land is growing dry and the women are tired of having to wear leadership shoes and be the voice of a speechless generation. No longer will I allow myself or the men around me to rest in the dark shadow of Adam. I pray that God raise up 100 around me that I can learn from and lead with and love as He has allowed me to be loved by 100 I never knew.
