Day one of the World Race was the worst day of ministry I have ever had.  This month we are working with people with special needs at Camp Hope. We feed them, clean them, and play and sing to them. I have no experience with severe special needs, so I was uncomfortable and anxious from the moment we walked in the building. My first day of ministry consisted of me feeding a choking child, being punched in the head by a large (and fast) nonverbal teen, and lifting a woman twice my size on and off the toilet. Not my ideal first day of my anticipated Gap Year. Somehow though, it was good. I was humbled from the moment I walked in the gated door. I knew nothing, was totally out of my comfort zone, and somehow Jesus kept getting me to say yes with a positive attitude all day. Day two of the World Race was one of the the best days of ministry. I walked in already knowing that I know nothing, that I can’t do anything but do my best, and that I am just there to try to love these people as Jesus does. Today I laughed with the teenagers and danced with ten year olds. I feel so privileged to be a part of this.
