Hiya everyone! My name is Torrey, and I am going on the Gap Year this October of 2016! I have had a passion for missions for five years, and every year that passion seems to grow.
I graduate high school this May, and I am not taking the standard college-bound route. I knew I did not want to go to college right after high school because I had no idea what subject I would pay so much money to study. All I know is that God has called me to international ministry.
For the last three years, I have felt particularly called to India. When I found that this route heads to India for three months, I had to apply. I am not sure what God has in store for me when I get to India, but I could not be more excited to go!
After India, I will be going to Malaysia for three months. This country is not one that would be in my top places to visit, so I am curious and eager to see how God uses my presence there! I am enthusiastic to see what God does through our team in a place full of so many cultures, religions and people.
I will also be visiting to Zambia for three months. When I realized that the route I’m on goes to Zambia, I asked, “that’s probably in Africa…right?” I’ve researched and learned a lot, including that it’s a Christian nation, and right now a big issue for Christians is just lack of encouragement. I am so ready to build relationships with locals and to be a part of a revival. I don’t know a lot about Zambia like I do India, but I am so excited to be surprised by God.
Here’s just a little about me:
- I LOVE chips and salsa
- I collect flags
- I am a photographer
- My favorite restaurant is Cafe Rio
- I have a tiny dog named Mini. She’s a punk.
- My family is kinda nuts, but they’re pretty cool! (shh..don’t tell them I said that)
- I really like the show Friends
- I love popcorn with parmesan
- One of my favorite movies is The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and I listen to the soundtrack to inspire me into adventure
- Laughing is my favorite
- I love hanging out with kids
- I am very clumsy
- I am a Wyldlife leader in Colorado!
- I can only eat cereal with a plastic spoon
I am so excited to do what I love for 9 months, and to write about it! I will keep you frequently updated throughout my trip and the months leading up to it. As I go through this journey, I ask that you would continue to pray. Please pray for the countries I’m visiting, my team and me. Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us every day, leading us to the people who need to hear truth. Pray that we can encourage, lift up, love and serve broken and hurting people. Pray that He will be glorified through everything we do on this trip.
Thank you for your support!
