You might be wondering why I titled this blog peanut butter jelly time. Well It is because we eat a lot peanut butter and jelly and this is also the blog where I give you all the fun facts about Haiti. Isn’t that exciting!?

  • Peanut Butter & Jelly for some kind of meal almost everyday. I love it. I love it even better with cinnamon.
  • Cinnamon on everything. Eggs, oatmeal, chili, hamburger macaroni, PB&J and french toast of course. It’s like the universal spice. don’t judge, it’s good! You should try it.
  • Have eaten zero Haitian food. We cook all our own meals so of course we’re going to go the American way! (I heard the food is a lot like the DR)
  • I take that back, I did buy a couple avocado’s if that’s considered Haitian food. I just love those things!
  • Most things are priced in Haitian money, but Haitian money doesn’t exist. Government money does though, and that is called Gourdes. Multiply Haitian money by 5 and that’s how much you owe in Gourdes. Divide that by 40 (for every 40 Gourde is 1 Dollar) and that’s how much it is in USD. Don’t ask.
  • An actual glass bottle of Coca Cola Classic 24 oz is 15 Gourdes. 38 cents in USD.
  • A pack of delicious cookies is 10 gourde.
  • Internet for an hour; 25 gourde.
  • I noticed there at 2 types of palm trees.
  • Competent in lighting a gas stove.
  • We were really limited on water for the month I now know I can go a whole week without showering. You find other ways to make yourself feel clean; such as baby wipes.
  • 11 days without washing my hair. I know kind of sick but my hair doesn’t really get greasy.
  • Hurricane Sandra = great opportunity to take a shower. Didn’t skip out on this opportunity. Washed my hair under a never ending rain spout! It was glorious.
  • Chocolate chips are gold. You drop one on the counter, you better be eating it. Maybe even the floor.
  • Moldy bread? No hair, don’t care. Cut it off and eat it. Your stomach acids will take care of it.
  • Forget about sleeping in your room. Grab your sleeping pad and sleep in the hallway, it’s got the most breeze.
  • Hand sanitizer is “washing” your hands.
  • You workout on the roof because it’s the biggest space. People down below watch and mock you. They are silly.
  • “You” is your new name. Hear that quite often where ever you are walking to.
  • Kids will randomly grab you.
  • There is two sections in the grocery store dedicated just for Pringles.
  • A bag of fun sized Twix is $7. What happened to 2 for $5? I’ll wait.
  • 1 grapefruit, $8. I’ll wait on that too.
  • Apples are the go to fruit.
  • Laundry, hand wash once a week.
  • Jesus time all the time : )
