For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.
– Jeremiah 28:17
Sometimes God has a bigger plan than what you can understand or comprehend. Last week our cool and hip house that I’ve been bragging on got broken into. Well, they really didn’t break anything, but they intruded by a little thing called roof hopping. It’s not a difficult thing to do since the houses are so close together and all roofs are completely flat.
We wake up tuesday morning and notice things are missing; expensive things. 7 laptops, 3 hard drives, 2 ipods, 1 camera and a purse that contained a lot of important documents, sentimental items and a passport (which without your passport, you can’t leave the country). Confusion, frustration, loss, and fear filled the house. How could they do this to us? Could we ever be safe again? Don’t they know we are here to spread the word of God and to help this country?
Our two teams were flooded with instant support and prayers from pastors in the area, squad mates, squad leaders, and parents who all did their best near and far.
At sundown, we were still fearful of the people of Haiti. It felt like everyone was against us, the people in the street, our neighbors, the friends we have made. Was everyone in on it?
Close to $9,000 worth of items were stolen from us in 5 minutes. The good news?
There is so much to be thankful for.
- Everyone was okay, even though the thieves were only inches from some of our heads, no one was hurt.
- The greatest possession still remains. God and his gift of eternal life; which no one can take away.
- It stinks that we do not have our things, but God is teaching us way more about love and forgiveness than if we had our stuff back.
- We still have a roof over our heads, food in our belly’s, its the little things that count.
- We don’t need laptops and ipods to proclaim the word of God and share his love. All we need is Jesus.
We praised and worshiped God in the street that night.
We let go of any fear we had towards the people of Haiti and God sent rain down on us. There was peace and there was no fear.
If God is for us, than who can be against us?
There IS power in the name of Jesus.
